Bev Smith Named Civic Park Managing Director

Longtime Kidsports Executive Director Retains Leadership Role With That Organization

Bev Smith has assumed the new role of Managing Director of Civic Park.

As a longtime Eugene Civic Alliance Board member, co-chair of the Campaign Leadership Team, and Kidsports Executive Director, Smith will now oversee ECA and Kidsports operations at the new community recreational facility on the site of the former Civic Stadium.

In this position, Smith will continue the fundamental work of recently retired ECA Executive Director Nancy Webber in addition to leading Kidsports.

“Bev is ready to take on this role and certainly has the knowledge of Civic Park and what is needed,” said ECA President Jon Anderson. “The ECA Board is confident in moving forward with her leadership.”

Smith has been involved in the Civic Park project since the beginning. Shortly after ECA was founded, Smith began working with the Board to not only build a recreational facility for the community to enjoy but to find a permanent home for Kidsports.

“The plans we have for Civic Park are fundamental to our ability to raise healthy, happy kids and have them grow into active adults,” said Smith. “The park is bringing the entire community together as we reconnect, reimagine, and rediscover the joys of fitness. The lasting impression Civic will leave on kids, teens, and adults, alike, is monumental for their health and the health of our community.”

The ECA and Kidsports Boards will continue to collaborate closely in improving the overall health of our community. With the fieldhouse built and the turf field installed, Smith and her team will focus on other important elements of the project that need to be accomplished, including building a stadium as part of Phase 2 of the project. Smith will concentrate on raising the $1.2 million still needed to complete Phase 1 while preparing for Phase 2.
