Civic Stadium Fire

Civic Stadium Fire

Like the rest of the community, we are stunned by the fire today that destroyed the Civic Stadium grandstand.  While we will await the official report from the fire department, it is obvious to all that the grandstand is a total loss.  We are in shock and it will take time to process the events of today and determine next steps.

To the fire fighters and law enforcement officers on the scene, we wish to express our heartfelt gratitude for their swift and compassionate response.  We are hopeful that no other property is lost and that everyone affected stays safe from harm.  Officials will have our full cooperation in the investigation to come.

To answer a few questions we know are on people’s minds:

–       The structure was insured.  We will work with our insurance representatives on next steps.

–       Construction on the site was scheduled to begin next month.

–       To our knowledge, no Eugene Civic Alliance volunteers or contractors were on the site today.

–       It is too early for us to know where we go from here.  We ask for a bit of grace and patience as we come to grips with this loss to our community and to our effort.

We will do our best to communicate with the public in the coming days.  Thank you for all the support.  Civic is an important touchstone for our community, and today we mourn its loss.
