ECA Board Member Receives Service Award

The Register Guard announced last week that Eugene Civic Alliance Board of Directors member Jenny Ulum was honored at the United Way of Lane County’s Community Celebration. Ulum was presented with the prestigious Alton F. Baker Award for service, the highest award that United Way of Lane County bestows, for her work as a volunteer within the community. The event took place at the Eugene Hilton where Bridget Baker, granddaughter of Alton F. Baker, presented Ulum with the award.

Ulum has been a highly involved member of the Eugene community since she moved here to attend the University of Oregon in the early 1980’s. Her volunteer efforts include serving as the board chairwoman for the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, campaign chairwoman for United Way’s Live United 2008 fundraising campaign, United Way board president, Relief Nursery Board of Directors President, and Eugene Civic Alliance Board of Directors member.

When asked about her volunteer history and her future plans, Ulum said, “Some people go deep; some people go wide. I hope I’ve gone a little deep, but I’ve mostly gone wide… I don’t believe in retiring.”

We are thankful to have Ms. Ulum as a valued member of our Board of Directors. We know that with dedicated, community-minded people like her on our team, we will be able to make our dreams for Civic Park a reality.
