Moving Forward: One Year After the Civic Stadium Fire

On June 29th, 2015, Eugene lost one of its most beloved landmarks, Civic Stadium. The fire destroyed a historic building, but the response from the Eugene/Springfield community gave us a sense of hope for the future of Civic. At ECA, we felt a renewed determination to finish what we started.

Our goals for the site have not changed. We want to give our community a place where kids can enjoy playing their favorite sports, where adults can participate in recreational leagues and enjoy a lifetime of physical activity, and where families and friends can rally together to cheer on local sports teams. We want to give people in the Eugene/Springfield area a place that will be home to the same happy, carefree memories that Civic Stadium once held.

One year later, we are busy and moving forward. We are finalizing architectural designs for a new facility. In April, we hired local contractors Chambers Construction to build Civic Park. This summer, you will find us at local events, such as Sunday Streets and neighborhood picnics to give people a chance to learn more about the project and to find out how they can get involved.

We are thankful for the help and encouragement that we have received throughout the past year and we know that with the continued support of our community, Civic Park will become a vibrant, recreation and entertainment venue that will make the people who built Civic Stadium proud!
